With volatile petrol prices and an unreliable grid, many farmers have abandoned irrigation altogether, limiting production to a single rain-fed season each year and increasing their exposure to droughts and erratic rainfall.
Nimsy Agro Solar Concept designs and deploys portable, solar-powered agricultural equipment for smallholder farmers across Nigeria. Their products include irrigation pumps, grain threshers, dryers, and solar-powered water reservoirs. Its foldable solar panels are lightweight, easy to transport, and more durable than conventional rigid systems, making them well-suited to rural and remote farming communities. Farmers can access equipment on a rental or lease-to-own basis, reducing the barrier of upfront cost.
Impact
Nimsy directly reduces carbon emissions and fuel costs for farming households by replacing fossil-fuel-powered equipment with solar alternatives. Farmers are able to irrigate year-round, increasing agricultural productivity without expanding into new land, which reduces pressure on forests and natural habitats. The company’s equipment also reduces post-harvest losses through improved grain threshing and drying, preserving both food and the embedded resources used to produce it.
