Problem and Solution

West Africa, the world’s dominant supplier of cocoa, faces growing challenges including extreme weather events, crop disease, and supply chain bottlenecks driven by stricter environmental regulations. These disruptions have led to supply shortfalls and price surges for the commodity. New cacao-producing regions like Colombia are emerging as viable alternatives, offering favourable conditions for sustainable and high-quality production. With global demand for ethically sourced chocolate rising, the need for long-term investments in sustainable production and financial support for producers to meet shifting market expectations has increased. However, a gap remains between small-scale producers and international buyers, who seek transparency, sustainability, and quality in cacao products.

Bean to Bar Colombia bridges this gap by creating a vertically integrated cacao supply chain that directly connects over 7,000 farmers to high-value international markets. By offering fair trade pricing, the company ensures economic stability for farming communities while promoting sustainable, climate-resilient, agroforestry practices. With certifications like USDA Organic and Fair Trade, it delivers ethically sourced chocolate products, including private-label chocolates, cacao nibs, and couverture chocolates. By combining artisanal quality with large-scale production capacity, Bean to Bar Colombia caters to the rising global demand for premium, climate-resilient, sustainable chocolate while driving social and environmental impact in Colombia’s cacao-growing regions.

Climate and Nature Impact

Bean to Bar supports agroforestry organic cacao farms, reducing the emissions, soil nutrient depletion and chemical run-off associated with large-scale farms. The company plans to develop a system to pay farmers to improve the climate risk profile of their crops, by measuring risk factors and delivery tailored risk reduction insights. Additionally, Bean to Bar sources all its raw cacao from farmer cooperatives across Colombia, which in some instances are exclusively run and operated by women smallholders.
